Zanussi Washer Error E40: Door Lock Fault
Indicates the Zanussi washer cannot confirm the door is safely closed and locked before or during the program.
Common symptoms:
- The program will not start even though the door looks closed
- E40 code on display
- The door does not latch with the usual click
Probable causes:
Clothing or the edge of the rubber seal gets caught in the frame, preventing the door from fully seating.
The electrical component that secures the door during washing has worn out and does not send a confirmed lock signal.
A loose wire or corroded connector breaks communication between the lock and the control board.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Open and close the door slowly, checking that no clothing or lint is caught between the seal and the metal frame.
Push the door until you hear the closing click and start a short program to see if E40 clears.
Unplug the washer for 2 minutes, plug it back in, and try the program again to rule out a one-off electronic glitch.
If the door closes properly but E40 persists after resetting, the door lock mechanism (interlock) is faulty and needs technician replacement.
