Whirlpool Washer Error F06: Motor Tachometer Fault
Control module fails to receive speed feedback signals from drum motor tachometer sensor.
How to reset or clear this error:
Unplug the Whirlpool washer for exactly 15 minutes to discharge the control board capacitors and clear the fault from memory. Plug it back in and run a short spin cycle to confirm the F06 error doesn't return.
Common symptoms:
- Drum gives sudden speed jerk then stops completely
- F06 code displayed
Probable causes:
Carbon brush contact length worn under 5mm minimum threshold.
Wiring harness plug partially dislodged during heavy spinning cycle.
Magnetic ring on motor rear shaft cracked or loose.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Unplug power cord for 15 full minutes to clear stored fault codes on control module. Plug in and attempt drain/spin cycle.
Spin drum by hand with door open; verify smooth rotation without mechanical grinding noise. Reduce heavy soaking items.
If F06 code returns immediately, a technician is required to replace worn motor carbon brushes or tachometer pickup coil.
