AEG Extractor Hood: Grease Filter Saturation Alert
AEG hoods include a timer that lights up an icon or warning light after accumulating a set number of operating hours, signaling that the metal filters need cleaning.
Common symptoms:
- Filter icon or light lit when the hood is switched on
- Smoke and steam take longer to clear
- A faint grease smell lingers even with the hood running
Probable causes:
The alert triggers automatically after a certain number of usage hours (typically 20-30), regardless of how much grease has actually built up.
In hoods without ducting to the outside, the carbon filter loses odor-absorbing capacity with use and needs periodic replacement.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
With the hood unplugged, press the retaining latch on each filter and lower them out carefully. Wash with hot water and degreasing soap, rinsing every grille thoroughly.
Wait until the filters are completely dry before refitting them, so no water or dissolved grease drips onto the hob below.
Plug the hood back in and press and hold the filter alert button (usually a droplet or grille icon) for a few seconds until the light turns off, confirming the counter has been reset.
If the saturation alert lights up immediately after the reset, or the hood loses suction power even with clean filters, it's advisable to have a technician check the extraction motor and control board.
