AEG Dryer Error E61: Insufficient Heating
The E61 code indicates the AEG dryer hasn't reached the expected drying temperature within the maximum allowed time, almost always due to poor ventilation or a heating element fault.
Common symptoms:
- "E61" appears on the display and the program stops
- Laundry finishes the cycle barely dried
- The remaining time on screen increases instead of decreasing
Probable causes:
Lint buildup in the filter reduces hot-air flow, preventing the dryer from reaching the target temperature in time.
The heating element has aged and no longer generates enough heat, even though it's still partially working.
The sensor measuring the drying air temperature gives an incorrect reading, making the control think heat is insufficient.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Remove the filter (in the door or drawer, depending on the model) and clear out all the lint. Also locate the metal strips of the moisture sensor inside the drum and clean them with a soft cloth.
Try a smaller load and make sure the rear and side ventilation grilles aren't blocked by the wall or nearby furniture.
Run a short program and check whether the dryer generates noticeable heat within the first few minutes; if not, the heating element is more likely the culprit.
If cleaning and ventilation don't resolve E61, the heating element or temperature sensor should be checked with a multimeter by a technician, since both components involve working with electrical parts of the heating circuit.
