AEG Induction Hob: Power Level Number Flashes ("12")
When the power level flashes, typically at the number 12, on an AEG induction hob, it means the selected zone can't activate the induction coil because it doesn't detect a suitable pan.
Common symptoms:
- The power number flashes but the zone doesn't heat
- The characteristic induction hum is absent
- Lifting and replacing the pot doesn't stop the flashing
Probable causes:
Induction hobs only heat pans with a magnetic base; aluminum, pure copper, or ceramic cookware won't activate the coil.
Some budget pans have a layered base where the center isn't ferromagnetic, which confuses the detection sensor.
If it happens with several clearly suitable pans, the detection sensor for that specific zone may have failed.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Run a fridge magnet over the base of the pot; if it grips firmly across the whole surface it's compatible, if it comes off easily you need a different pan.
Place another stainless steel pot or pan marked as induction-compatible on the same zone to confirm whether the issue is the original pan or the hob.
Make sure the base covers at least the marked circle on the zone and is well centered; pans that are too small or off-center won't activate the coil.
If the number 12 keeps flashing with well-centered magnetic steel pans tested across different zones, a technician needs to check that zone's detection sensor or electronics module.
