Bosch Oven Error E9: Overheat (ECO) Sensor Fault
Indicates the ECO safety sensor, which cuts power if the oven overheats, has detected an open circuit or abnormal reading and locks out operation as a safety measure.
How to reset or clear this error:
Disconnect the Bosch oven from power and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Clean dust from the rear or top ventilation grilles before reconnecting; the E9 error clears itself once the ECO sensor no longer detects the fault.
Common symptoms:
- "E9" appears on the display and the oven stops heating
- Oven shuts itself off midway through cooking
- Cooling fan may keep running even though the oven has stopped
Probable causes:
Vibration or heat from repeated use can loosen the overheat sensor's connector at the back of the oven, breaking the signal.
The component that measures the cutoff temperature has worn out or gone open-circuit and needs replacing.
Dust or debris blocking the rear or top vents stops the oven cooling properly, legitimately triggering the safety cutoff.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Switch off the breaker or unplug the oven. Wait at least 30 minutes for it to fully cool before touching any rear panel component.
With the oven cold and unplugged, vacuum the dust built up in the air intake and outlet grilles on the back or top of the unit.
Reconnect power and set a short 10-minute preheat cycle, watching whether the E9 error reappears before reaching temperature.
If the E9 error persists after cleaning the vents, the ECO sensor or its internal wiring needs inspection and replacement by a technician, since it's part of the oven's thermal safety circuit.
