LG Dryer Error dE: Door Not Closing Properly
The dE code on an LG dryer means the door's magnetic sensor doesn't confirm a proper closure, so the program either won't start or stops mid-cycle.
Common symptoms:
- dE flashes on the display when Start is pressed
- The drum doesn't turn even with a program selected
- The dryer stops on its own mid-cycle
Probable causes:
A sleeve or garment gets pinched between the door and drum frame without being obviously visible.
The small door magnet or the frame's Hall sensor has shifted slightly, usually from a bump while loading laundry.
Prolonged daily use has worn down the closing mechanism, leaving a small gap the sensor detects as an open door.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Remove all clothes from the drum and run your hand around the rubber door rim looking for trapped garments or lint preventing a perfect close.
Close the door pushing firmly until you hear a clear click from the latch. If you don't hear it, try lifting or lowering it slightly while closing to compensate for possible misalignment.
Unplug the dryer for 2 minutes to reset the electronics, plug it back in, and try a short air-only program with no clothes to confirm it starts normally.
If the door closes with a firm click and no clothing is trapped but dE persists, the magnetic sensor or door micro-switch needs to be checked and replaced by a technician.
