Indesit Washer Error F05: Drain Pump Fault

Indesit's control board detects that the drain pump is not responding or cannot empty the water within the set time during the cycle.

15 estimated minutes Basic Difficulty (DIY)

Common symptoms:

  • Cycle stops with the drum full of water
  • F05 flashes on the display, or blinking lights on models without a screen
  • Buzzing pump sound with no water coming out

Probable causes:

Pump filter blocked with objects or lint 60%

Fabric fibers, buttons, or coins trapped in the filter stop the impeller from turning properly.

Drain hose kinked or disconnected 25%

The rear hose kinked when the washer was moved, or came partially loose from its fitting.

Burned-out drain pump motor 15%

The pump motor's electrical winding has degraded after years of use and no longer generates suction force.

Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):

1. Unplug the washer before accessing the filter

Unplug the appliance and place a towel and shallow tray under the filter hatch, at the bottom right or left corner depending on the model.

⚡ Never open the filter with the machine plugged in or with hot water in the drum.
2. Remove and clean the pump filter

Turn the filter counter-clockwise carefully, letting water drain out gradually, and remove all trapped debris before screwing it back in firmly.

3. Check the hose and run a test cycle

Check the rear hose isn't kinked and is securely attached. Plug the washer back in and run a short rinse-and-spin cycle to confirm it drains normally.

When to call a professional technician?

If the filter is clean and the hose is in good shape but the pump makes no sound when attempting to drain, the pump motor needs replacement by a technician.
