Indesit Fridge Error E1: Refrigerator Sensor Fault
The E1 code on an Indesit fridge indicates a fault in the fridge compartment's temperature sensor, so the board cannot properly regulate cooling.
Common symptoms:
- The E1 indicator lights or flashes on the panel
- The fridge zone cools too much or too little
- The compressor motor starts and stops abnormally
Probable causes:
The small sensor plug on the fridge's inner wall has come partially out of its socket.
The sensor has lost accuracy over time or developed an internal fault and no longer gives a reliable reading.
The control module has an internal fault preventing it from properly reading the sensor signal, even if the sensor itself is fine.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Unplug the fridge for about 5 minutes before reconnecting it, to rule out a one-off faulty reading from the board.
With the unit unplugged, locate the sensor on the fridge's inner rear wall and confirm its plug is fully seated.
If the connector is properly seated and E1 keeps appearing after the restart, the temperature sensor needs replacing; it's an inexpensive part but best changed by a technician to avoid damaging the interior insulation.
