Hotpoint Washer Error F17: Door Lock Fault
Appears when the Hotpoint washer cannot confirm the door is properly closed and locked before starting or during the program.
Common symptoms:
- The program will not start despite the door being closed
- F17 code on display
- The door does not latch with the usual click
Probable causes:
An item of clothing gets caught between the seal and the frame, preventing the door from fully engaging the locking mechanism.
The electrical component that secures the door during the cycle has lost continuity and does not send a confirmed lock signal.
A loose wire or deteriorated connector breaks communication between the lock and the control board.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Open the door and check that no clothing, lint, or object is trapped between the seal and the door frame.
Close the door, pushing until you feel the locking click, and select the program again to see if F17 clears.
Unplug the appliance for 2 minutes and plug it back in to rule out a one-off electronic glitch before suspecting the interlock.
If the door closes correctly but F17 persists after resetting, the door lock mechanism (interlock) is faulty and needs technician replacement.
