Electrolux Washer Error E20: Drain Fault

The E20 code means the Electrolux washer cannot drain the water from the drum within the expected time, usually due to a clogged filter or blocked hose.

15 estimated minutes Basic Difficulty (DIY)

Common symptoms:

  • Cycle stops with water still in the drum
  • E20 code flashes on the display
  • Door remains locked

Probable causes:

Drain pump filter clogged 60%

Buttons, coins, or built-up lint block water flow through the bottom filter.

Drain hose kinked or wall siphon blocked 30%

The rear hose is crushed against furniture, or the wall siphon has built-up grease and detergent.

Faulty drain pump motor 10%

The pump motor has worn out or burned out and no longer generates enough pressure.

Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):

1. Unplug the washer and prepare to drain

Unplug the washer from the mains. Place towels and a shallow tray by the filter hatch, usually at the bottom front.

⚡ Always disconnect power before opening the filter hatch. The water inside may be hot.
2. Clean the pump filter

Open the hatch, unscrew the filter slowly counter-clockwise letting water out gradually, and remove any trapped objects or lint.

3. Check the rear hose and wall siphon

Check that the rear drain hose isn't kinked. If possible, disconnect it from the wall siphon and pour water through to confirm it flows freely.

When to call a professional technician?

If the filter is clean and the hose is clear but E20 persists, or the pump makes no sound at all when trying to drain, the drain pump needs professional replacement.
