Zanussi Freezer Alarm H1 / H2: Temperature Too High
The display flashes H1 or H2 along with an intermittent beep, warning that the internal temperature has risen above the safe freezing level.
Common symptoms:
- Intermittent beeping every few minutes
- Food starts to soften
- Display shows a temperature well above -18°C
Probable causes:
A protruding food package prevents full closure, or the perimeter gasket has hardened and lets warm air in.
The freezer sits flush against the wall with no ventilation gap, or a large batch of warm food was loaded at once.
The unit logged being without power long enough for temperature to rise, even though it is now running normally again.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Rearrange food so nothing blocks full closure. Run your hand along the whole gasket edge; if you feel cold air escaping or see cracks, clean it with warm water and mild soap.
Move the freezer at least 5-10 cm away from the wall and remove anything blocking the lower or rear ventilation grilles.
Close the door firmly and avoid opening it for several hours. The alarm usually clears itself within 6-24 hours once -18°C is reached again.
If the gasket is fine, ventilation space is adequate, and the alarm doesn't clear after 24 hours, the compressor or temperature sensor is likely failing and needs a technician.
