Whirlpool Oven Error F3: Temperature Sensor Fault
The F3 code on a Whirlpool oven means the control board has detected an abnormal reading from the cavity's temperature sensor, so it halts the cooking program as a safety measure.
Common symptoms:
- F3 flashes on the display with intermittent beeping
- The oven stops heating midway through cooking
- The displayed temperature jumps erratically or freezes
Probable causes:
The probe on the oven's rear wall degrades from repeated heating and cooling cycles until it stops sending a valid signal to the board.
The connector on the oven's rear exterior can loosen from vibration or degrade from accumulated heat.
In fewer cases, it's the board's own circuitry misreading an otherwise correct signal from the probe.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Disconnect the oven at the breaker or plug for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect it to force the control board to reset.
With the oven unplugged and pulled away from the wall, locate the probe's white connector at the rear exterior and check it's firmly seated with no scorch marks.
Turn the oven on at 180°C for a few minutes and watch whether F3 reappears; if it does right away, the probe is likely damaged.
If F3 persists after the reset and connector check, the temperature sensor needs replacing; it's an accessible part, but it requires removing the rear panel, so many users prefer to have a technician do it.
