Teka Extractor Hood Filter Alert: Grease Saturation

The Teka hood's filter light or icon turns solid after a set number of usage hours, warning that the metal filters are saturated with grease and reducing suction performance.

20 estimated minutes Basic Difficulty (DIY)

Common symptoms:

  • Filter light or icon stays permanently lit
  • Hood suction is noticeably weaker than before
  • Kitchen odors linger longer than usual

Probable causes:

Metal grease filters coated in built-up fat 80%

This is a normal scheduled maintenance reminder, not a malfunction: an internal timer counts cooking hours and prompts periodic filter washing.

Spent activated carbon filter (recirculation mode) 20%

In ductless hoods, the carbon filter loses its odor-neutralizing capacity roughly every 3-4 months.

Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):

1. Remove and wash the metal filters

With the hood switched off, pull the latch or button holding each metal filter and remove them. Wash with hot water and degreasing detergent, or run them through the dishwasher at 60°C.

⚡ Switch off and unplug the hood before removing filters, especially if it has built-in lighting.
2. Dry thoroughly and reset the hour counter

Let filters dry completely before reinstalling to avoid grease dripping. Press and hold the speed button or filter symbol for a few seconds until the light turns off, resetting the counter.

3. Replace the carbon filter if applicable

If your hood runs in recirculation mode without outdoor ducting, check the activated carbon filter behind the motor and replace it with a new one compatible with your Teka model.

When to call a professional technician?

If the filter indicator stays lit after washing and resetting correctly, or if the hood also makes an unusual noise, it's advisable to have a technician check the motor and control board.
