Electrolux Extractor Hood: Grease Filter Indicator Lit
The grease filter indicator on an Electrolux hood turns on automatically after a set number of accumulated operating hours, signaling that the metal filters need cleaning.
Common symptoms:
- Filter light or icon stays permanently on
- The hood pulls noticeably less air than before
- More steam and odor build up in the kitchen while cooking
Probable causes:
This is a scheduled maintenance reminder, not a fault: an internal timer counts usage hours and recommends periodic washing, typically every 3-4 weeks of regular use.
If the hood runs without outdoor ducting, the carbon filter loses its odor-neutralizing capacity every few months and needs replacing.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
With the hood off and cool, release each filter's latch and remove them. Wash with hot water and degreasing detergent, or run them through the dishwasher on an intense cycle.
Once the filters are dry and refitted, press and hold the speed button or filter symbol (depending on model) for a few seconds until the light flashes and turns off.
If your hood works in recirculation mode, locate the activated carbon filter behind the metal grille and replace it with a new one compatible with your Electrolux model.
If the indicator stays lit after washing the filters and resetting the counter correctly, or the hood also makes an unusual noise or vibrates excessively, it's worth having a technician check the motor and control board.
