Siemens Oven: Door Stays Locked After a Pyrolytic Cleaning Cycle
After the pyrolytic cleaning cycle finishes, the padlock symbol stays lit and the Siemens oven door won't unlock even though the cycle is done and the appliance has cooled.
Common symptoms:
- The padlock icon remains lit on the display
- The door won't budge even though the oven has cooled down
- The pyrolysis program shows cycle complete but the lock never releases
Probable causes:
For safety, the motorized latch won't release the door until the interior cavity drops below a set temperature, which can take over an hour after a long cycle.
The small motor that moves the locking rod can seize up from wear, or from an incomplete electrical reset after a power cut mid-cycle.
If the probe reports an incorrect temperature, the board never receives the signal that it's safe to release the door.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Do not force the door. Leave the oven off and undisturbed for at least 1-2 hours after the cycle ends; it usually unlocks on its own once the cavity cools.
Unplug the oven or switch off the relevant circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then reconnect it; this forces the control board to reset and can release the lock.
Check whether an error number appears next to the padlock; note it down, as it helps a technician determine whether the fault is the sensor or the lock motor.
If the door remains locked after several hours and a power reset, do not force the mechanism: the lock motor or temperature sensor needs inspection and replacement by a technician, since forcing the door can break the locking rod.
