Siemens Induction Hob Error E9: Cookware Not Detected
The E9 alert on a Siemens induction hob appears when the cooking zone doesn't detect a suitable induction-ready pan, so it won't activate the coil even though the zone is switched on.
Common symptoms:
- E9 appears on the display of the active zone
- The zone doesn't heat even with a pot placed on it
- The alert clears when switching to a different pan
Probable causes:
Pans made of aluminum, copper, or ceramic without a magnetic base don't complete the circuit needed for the coil to generate heat.
The minimum detectable diameter varies by zone; a small pot off-center may not trigger the sensors.
If the alert appears even with suitable, well-centered pans across several zones, the issue may lie in the hob's own hardware.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Hold a magnet to the base of the pan: if it sticks firmly, it's suitable; if it doesn't stick or sticks weakly, you need a different pan.
Place the pot or pan directly over the circle marked on the glass and use a base diameter of at least 12 cm, avoiding curved edges that reduce contact.
If a pan you know is suitable still shows E9 only in one specific zone, try it on a different zone to isolate whether the fault is the pan or that particular zone.
If E9 keeps appearing with clearly suitable, well-centered pans, and occurs across several zones of the hob, a technician needs to check the detection sensor or the relevant coil.
