Samsung Microwave Error SE / dE: Door Switch Fault
The SE or dE code on a Samsung microwave means the control panel detects an inconsistent signal from the door safety switches and locks operation for safety.
Common symptoms:
- SE or dE flashes on the display with beeps
- The microwave won't heat even with the door closed
- Buttons stop responding except for the power/off button
Probable causes:
Built-up splatter on the frame or latch prevents the door hooks from fully engaging the switches.
Microwaves include several redundant micro-switches for safety; with use and heat they can fail or become misaligned.
The repeated stress of daily opening can slightly misalign the door over the years.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Unplug the appliance. Thoroughly clean the rubber frame and door latch with a damp cloth, paying special attention to corners where splatter builds up.
Open and close the door slowly several times, listening for the three switch clicks to sound normal, and check whether it aligns perfectly with the casing.
Plug the appliance back in and try heating a glass of water for 30 seconds to check whether the error has cleared.
If SE or dE persists after cleaning and checking alignment, one of the door safety switches needs replacement by a technician; handling these components without experience is not recommended due to internal electrical risk.
