LG Microwave: PF Alert or Flashing Clock After a Power Outage
The PF (Power Failure) alert or the clock flashing 0:00 on an LG microwave simply means the appliance experienced a power interruption and needs the clock reset; it is not a malfunction.
Common symptoms:
- The display flashes 0:00 or shows "PF"
- The microwave works normally when opening the door and heating
- The buttons respond but the clock hasn't been retained
Probable causes:
A blackout, a tripped circuit breaker, or unplugging the microwave to clean it causes it to lose the saved time, since most models don't have a backup battery.
If the clock flashes repeatedly without a general outage at home, there may be micro-interruptions from a loose outlet or a faulty extension cable.
In very rare cases, if the PF alert appears consistently with stable power supply, it may indicate a problem with the electronic board.
Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):
Press the Clock button and set the current time following the manual's instructions; this clears the PF alert and the appliance will keep working normally.
If PF appears several times a week with no general power cuts at home, try plugging the microwave directly into the wall outlet, without extension cords or power strips.
The PF alert doesn't require technical intervention, since it isn't a microwave fault. Only if the clock keeps resetting with a stable power supply and a good outlet would it be worth having a technician check the control board.
