Electrolux Dishwasher Error i20: Drain Fault

Shown when the Electrolux dishwasher fails to drain dirty water from the tub within the time set by the program.

20 estimated minutes Basic Difficulty (DIY)

Common symptoms:

  • Standing water remains at the bottom of the tub
  • i20 code on display
  • Pump noise without the water level dropping

Probable causes:

Lower filter clogged with food residue 55%

The filters at the bottom of the tub accumulate residue that blocks water from reaching the pump.

Drain hose kinked or sink siphon blocked 30%

The hose gets crushed when the appliance is built in, or the kitchen siphon it connects to is blocked.

Faulty drain pump 15%

The pump motor has worn out or burned out and no longer generates enough force to drain the water.

Safe Inspection Checklist (Check off when completed):

1. Clean the lower tub filters

Remove the filter assembly from the bottom by turning it counter-clockwise and clean it thoroughly under the tap, removing food and grease residue.

2. Check the drain hose and siphon

Check the hose is not kinked when the appliance is fitted, and clear the kitchen siphon if needed.

3. Run a drain-only cycle

Select the drain-only option or a short program to verify water now drains normally from the tub.

When to call a professional technician?

If after cleaning filters and hose the pump runs but does not drain water, the pump motor is faulty and needs technician replacement.
